Safeway blazed its way to the top spot for the first time in 2008, winning Best Bakery. Its multiple-time-per-day fresh French bread set-outs and endless supply of breakfast choices garnered it the top spot.

Nob Hill, a five-time winner since 2000, rallied to beat Save Mart for the first runner-up spot. Nob Hill’s cakes are popular, as are its fresh-baked breads. Last a winner in 2006, Save Mart’s low prices and selection were cited as another Honor Award winner.
