Grand Master Thac H. Nguyen has been teaching taekwondo for more than 17 years. He started teaching when he was just 15 years old, when his father, Grand Master Chinh Nguyen, acquired a taekwondo school in Santa Clara. He was the head instructor for all the classes. In 1996, they moved the school to Milpitas. In 1998, he took over ownership of the school when his father passed away.

“I re-named the school Blue Dragon Taekwondo Academy, in honor of the Vietnamese name my father had originally given the school, Thanh Long. We’ve moved from a couple of locations within Milpitas since then. The current new location is the biggest facility we’ve been in so far,” Grand Master Nguyen says.

Grand Master Nguyen has been practicing taekwondo since he was 5.

“My family and I immigrated to the U.S. in 1986 and three years later my dad bought a school in Santa Clara. In 1999 I went to the World Taekwondo Headquarters, Kukkiwon, in Seoul, Korea to study for my Master Instructor License and privately trained with the Samsung Taekwondo Team under world-renowned coaches, Grand Master Kim Sei Hyek and Master Chul Ho Kim. There, I earned top scores in taekwondo training and was granted an Instructor’s Certification. I am one of only two instructors in Northern California with such a title. The other instructor who has this title is Grand Master Joong K. Nam, who is also teaching at Blue Dragon Taekwondo Academy.” In 2004, Thac became the youngest 7th Degree black belt in taekwondo.

“What sets my taekwondo school apart from the rest is the high quality of instruction in each and every class. We also have a small student/teacher ratio to provide more attention to every student,” Grand Master Nguyen says.

Family is very important to him.

“I wouldn’t be able to do what I love for a living without their love and support. I have two boys and a girl, ages 5, 4 and 2. My wife is a software engineer at Cisco.”

Grand Master Nguyen is President of Silicon Valley Taekwondo Association, 2005-present.
